Hemlock Semiconductor Group crusades for a cure
Employees from Dow Corning, SSI and Hemlock Semiconductor have formed a
volunteer team, Crusaders for a Cure, for Midland County’s Relay For
Life®, the American Cancer Society's signature event, to raise money and
awareness in the fight against cancer.
On Tuesday, June 24, Crusaders for a Cure team members at the
Mid-Michigan sites kicked-off fundraising and other activities for Relay for
Life. Employee volunteers started selling cookies and a Penny War.
Additionally, paper feet and stars were sold to show our support of the
Relay for Life. Ceremony of Hope luminaria bags were sold to celebrate the
survivorship of people who have battled cancer and lived to tell the tale or to
commemorate the lives of those who have been lost to cancer.
Midland County’s Relay For Life® is a fun-filled overnight experience designed
to bring together those who have been touched by cancer. The twenty-four-hour
Relay for Life event will be held at the Midland County Fairgrounds on July 19
and 20, beginning at 9:00 AM on Saturday and continuing until 9:00 AM on
Sunday. During those two days, our Crusaders for a Cure team members
will take turns walking or running laps for the entire event. The events are
held overnight to represent the fact that cancer never sleeps. The luminaria
bags that are purchased and dedicated by our employees will be used to light
the track during the event.
As volunteers and donors, our team's and employee’s efforts support research,
education, advocacy, and services that allow the American Cancer Society to
offer help and hope to people across the country when they need it most. By
joining together at Relay, we celebrate life, friendship, and an opportunity to
work to defeat cancer for future generations.
