Hemlock Semiconductor receives 2016 Corporate Community Service award
At the annual Saginaw Chamber of Commerce Chairman’s Ball, HSC received the
2016 Corporate Community Service award for its contributions and service to
enhance the quality of life in Saginaw County.
"We are honored to receive this award from the Saginaw Chamber and
grateful to Thomas Township for the nomination,” said Denise Beachy, president
of Hemlock Semiconductor, as she accepted the award on behalf of the company.
“In addition to our corporate philanthropy, I couldn’t be more proud of our
employees' personal commitment to this community. Our employees give a lot of
themselves and this is an important part of what makes this a special team. We
have strong ties in this community at all levels of our organization – from
front line operators to business leadership. We will continue to nurture these,
including a continuation of support for educational opportunities, economic
development, community vitality, and employee volunteerism."
Among the highlights that led to HSC winning the award were: United Way
giving, Habitat builds, career fairs, classroom volunteering, serving on
boards, helping to establish the Saginaw County 911 emergency notification
system, the expansion and improvement of Thomas Township Parks and Recreation,
as well as the Saginaw Celebrates Summer arts celebration. HSC also provided a
large donation that helped Thomas Township purchase a reliable ladder truck for
the fire department, enhancing the safety of the surrounding community.
During Beachy’s acceptance remarks, she described the actions of HSC and its
employees as having a Ripple Effect – the continuous and spreading result of an
action or event. She added, "This is what happens when a community…our
community…comes together to help each other and make our home a great place to
live, work and play."
"And collectively, that’s what this community does. Whether small acts
or large – serving a meal in a soup kitchen or sponsorships of high quality
entertainment like the Saginaw Spirit or Temple Theatre events. This is about
quality of life…Our quality of life…Our home. Let’s keep making those ripples
and waves that make this community strong."
The Saginaw Chamber produced a commemorative video montage and wrapped up by
saying: "In a community that prides itself on strong corporate partners and
business contributors, Hemlock Semiconductor Group has distinguished itself,
setting an example for service, leadership, and philanthropy that few can
