Hemlock Semiconductor and Dow Corning Make Strides Against Breast Cancer
Seven teams of Dow Corning and Hemlock Semiconductor employees participated
in the American Cancer Society‟s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on
October 15, 2011 at Krossroads Park in Saginaw. The event drew nearly 3,000
participants and raised over $165,000.
 | Making Strides
Against Breast Cancer is the American Cancer Society’s call to raise awareness
and dollars to fight against breast cancer. Making Strides events occur
throughout the year in locations nationwide. In 2010, more than 800,000 walkers
across the country joined the American Cancer Society in the fight against
breast cancer, raising more than $60 million.
Hemlock Semiconductor and Dow Corning have been Making Strides flagship
corporate sponsors since 2007. This year, contributions from Hemlock
Semiconductor and Dow Corning’s corporate sponsorship and from individual
employees accounted for over $8,000.
“The fact that Dow Corning and Hemlock Semiconductor stepped up the plate and
began sponsoring this event in 2007 shows that they are truly dedicated to the
community,” said Jocelyn Hall, American Cancer Society Community
Representative. “It is very empowering to see both employees and breast cancer
survivors participating with the company |
supporting them along the way.”
The three mile walk was a celebration of survivorship, an occasion to
express hope, and part of a goal to end a disease that threatens the lives of
many loved ones.
“Having the opportunity to participate in an event with thousands of other
people in the Great Lakes Bay Region was overwhelmingly moving,” said Brittni
Tebedo, Hemlock Semiconductor HR Generalist. “Seeing survivors, women and men
currently battling breast cancer, family members, and friends participating in
the Making Strides walk was such an incredible and inspiring experience.
Gusting winds and cold temperatures couldn’t stop our team as we were ‘Pounding
the Pavement for a Cure’.”
