APSU received a $6.4 million grant from the state to build
the new lab facility on campus, and worked with both the Tennessee Board of
Regents and the Tennessee Higher Education Commission to offer an associate
degree program in chemical engineering
technology.
The new facility and degree program are the result of
Dow Corning and Hemlock Semiconductor’s December 2008 announcement
that Clarksville will be the site for its new polysilicon manufacturing
facility.
The new Clarksville site is scheduled to be operational in
late 2012 and will employ approximately 500 people.
