Saginaw job fair aimed at prospective employees struggling to find transportation

A transit service here will host a job fair featuring businesses and organizations that serve as stops on its bus routes.

Saginaw Transit Authority Regional Services (STARS) will organize the event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at its headquarters at 615 Johnson in downtown Saginaw.

Organizers said prospective employees can meet representatives from regional organizations including STARS, Delta College, Hemlock Semiconductor Corp., Francis Reh Academy, and PartnerShift Network.

The job fair also will include representatives from Blue Diamond Steel and Huron Castings, both of Pigeon in Huron County. Through a transportation agreement with the companies, STARS provides rides to both sites from Saginaw.

Glenn Steffens, the executive director of STARS, said the event will present accessible job opportunities to Saginaw residents struggling with transportation.

“Transportation is regarded as the biggest barrier to employment in Saginaw,” Steffens said in a statement. “If you don’t have a car or have other problems with transportation, we want you to know that you still can have a full-time job with great benefits.”
