Building Michigan’s tech future: Career event connects Saginaw community with opportunity

Dozens packed Delta College’s downtown Saginaw campus Wednesday night, not for class, but for a chance to build their future.

The event, hosted by Corning, Hemlock Semiconductor (HSC) and the community-based group H.E.L.P., aimed to connect mid-Michigan residents with information, resources, and tools to prepare for careers in advanced manufacturing and technology.

Organizers tell TV5 it wasn’t about job openings, it was about preparation.

“Success is when opportunity meets preparation,” said Kareem Bowen, executive director of H.E.L.P. Community Violence Intervention Program. “We want to make sure that when these opportunities are given to individuals, they have the tools and the assets necessary to successfully get the job.”

Attendees learned how to strengthen resumes, sharpen interview skills, and explore career paths at Corning’s new facility and HSC’s expanding operations in Hemlock. Representatives from both companies shared details about new roles and upcoming hiring efforts designed to grow local talent.

“We saw this as a golden opportunity to come back to an area that we knew had the talent we needed, and had the support of the local community,” said Carlo Scott, director at Corning.
